On April 17, 2012, the wild giant panda Longlong was found in critical condition in Longxi-Hongkou National Nature Reserve. His right forepaw was missing and he was unable to eat on his own. A rescue team from the Chengdu base treated him continuously for six days and nights until he was gradually out of danger. Because his ability to survive in the wild was limited, he later entered human care.
