Qieqie was one of the six wild-rescued giant pandas that helped form Chengdu's early captive population. In the 1980s, relatively few captive male giant pandas were capable of natural mating, but Qieqie repeatedly sired cubs through natural mating and became an important breeding male in the early Chengdu population.
