Qinqin was the first giant panda in Shaanxi to be successfully hand-reared without maternal care. After her birth in 2013, her mother lacked experience caring for a cub, so staff collected the mother’s milk and fed Qinqin by hand. The experience helped the Qinling Giant Panda Research Center build expertise in fully hand-rearing cubs. As an adult, Qinqin has a gentle temperament and can even help care for cubs born to other pandas.
