Runjiu’s name comes from the medical treatment she received shortly after birth. Yuanrun gave birth for the first time on July 31, 2018, and the cub had a wound extending from the corner of her mouth toward her neck. The injury was successfully sutured with nine stitches, inspiring the name Runjiu and its wish for lasting health. The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding Foundation has also documented her habit of spending long periods in trees and holding firmly to a favorite spot once she has chosen it.
