Xiaopingping was born in the wild in Lushan, Sichuan, around September 1987. He was rescued while still young and arrived at Chengdu Zoo in March 1988. He later became the father of giant pandas including Gongzai, Yingying, and Nini, growing from a rescued wild panda into a male that contributed to the captive breeding population.
