Yi Yi's name reflects the friendship between China and Malaysia. After caring for her over the years, keepers at Zoo Negara Malaysia said that, compared with her older sister Nuan Nuan, Yi Yi was gentler and more easygoing around staff. An earlier planned return to China was delayed by the pandemic, and in 2023 she finally ended her stay in Malaysia and returned with her younger sister Sheng Yi.
