Aiai and his older twin brother Qinqin were born on October 9, 2016, at Chimelong Safari Park, sons of Meiqing. During weaning, Chimelong keepers recorded that although he moved slowly and was not fond of exercise, he was very clever and had little trouble figuring out the doors in his enclosure. He would respond when familiar people called him, but often ignored unfamiliar voices.
