Baomei was born at Pairi Daiza on August 8, 2019, with her twin brother Baodi. They are the offspring of Xinghui and Haohao, born during China–Belgium giant panda conservation cooperation. Keepers who cared for Baomei over the years described her as more independent than her brother and quicker to adapt to unfamiliar surroundings and people. In 2024, she returned to China together with Baodi and their older brother Tianbao.
