On May 20, 2018, Beichuan, a giant panda rescued from the wild, gave birth to her first cub, Chuanzai. As a first-time mother, Beichuan was unable to nurse the cub safely, so the keeper team hand-reared Chuanzai with the help of stored maternal milk and other care. Chuanzai later became a mother herself.
