Liuliu's short life left behind an unusual medical record. She and Shunshun were born on October 11, 2019. Before they reached one year old, both cubs developed severe and recurrent allergic reactions during treatment; Liuliu died on May 11, 2020. The Chengdu Panda Base said at the time that allergic reactions this severe and recurrent had not previously been seen in captive giant pandas, and samples were collected for pathological, immunological, and etiological research.

Developed acute diarrhea
On April 26, 2020, Liuliu and Shunshun both stopped eating and developed acute diarrhea. During treatment, they repeatedly experienced severe allergic reactions and received continuous emergency care.
Died from multiple organ failure
Died on May 11, 2020, after rescue efforts for multiple organ failure were unsuccessful.
