Shunshun and Liuliu were the “late-arriving panda babies” born to Xiaoyatou on October 11, 2019, the latest litter of the year at the Chengdu Panda Base in nearly a decade. The following year, both cubs developed severe and recurrent allergic reactions while being treated for acute diarrhea. Shunshun died on May 20 from multiple organ failure, after which the base continued research into this rare type of allergic reaction.
