Manlan was born at the Bifengxia Panda Base in August 2017, the younger female of a male-female twin pair born to Caiyun. She became a mother for the first time in 2025 and initially had little experience caring for her cub. With continued support from the care team, by the time the cub was 38 days old she was responding to its calls, nursing it on her own and grooming it after it woke.
