In 2013, Yeye joined a mother-led wild-training program at Hetaoping in Wolong with her daughter Huayan. For about a year after birth, Huayan stayed with her mother and learned survival skills such as climbing trees before moving into the second phase of training in a setting closer to the wild. Huayan was eventually released, making Yeye's maternal care part of the giant panda rewilding research program.
