After the Wenchuan earthquake, An’an and Pingping were born at Bifengxia Base, and the research center described them as the world’s first giant panda twins born after the disaster. Unlike the quieter Pingping, An’an was described by Wolong experts as active and playful; he would even slip out of the nursery when keepers were not watching. In 2010, he traveled to Shanghai as one of the “Expo pandas.”
