At 100 days old, after 123,039 public votes, Bao Bao officially received a name meaning “treasure.” Smithsonian keepers observed that, unlike her older brother Tai Shan, who had been very attentive to his keepers as a cub, Bao Bao was more independent and generally preferred to keep some distance from staff. She returned to China in 2017 under the cooperation agreement.
