After Chunyu was weaned, she initially refused to eat panda bread. Keeper Tan Chengbin began placing slices of it between pieces of apple to make an “apple sandwich,” and over more than two months she gradually learned to accept it. When Chunyu was first introduced to Jifu, differences in temperament meant that the two were reluctant to spend time together. Their keepers gradually increased the time they ate and interacted together, and the pair eventually became close companions.
