On August 11, 2016, Qiaoqiao, a giant panda rescued from the wild, became a mother for the first time and gave birth to mixed-sex twins Qiaoyi and Qiaoliang; Qiaoyi was the older sister. Research records from the same period note that the cubs were raised with human assistance, and the litter also added genetic diversity from a wild maternal line to the captive population.
