Born

Erqie's name itself comes from a coincidence. She was born on August 13, 2011, at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. Three of her mother Eryatou's earlier daughters—Xiaoyatou, Xingrong, and Xingya—had also been born on August 13, so the fourth daughter born on that date was named “Erqie,” evoking both coincidence and good fortune. Her round face, relatively wide-set ears, and V-shaped black shoulder band are also easy identifying features.
