On September 7, 1991, Dongdong gave birth to the twins Bai Yun and Lv Di. As a first-time mother, Dongdong held Bai Yun but did not care for Lv Di after the second cub was born, so researchers took over Lv Di’s care. That experience became one of the important turning points in Wolong’s later work on assisted giant panda cub rearing.
