Rongrong was born at Hetaoping on July 13, 2004. He was Xixi’s eldest son and the only son of An An, the giant panda gifted to Hong Kong in 1999. While An An was living in Hong Kong, his semen was sent back to Wolong for artificial breeding, resulting in Rongrong’s birth. Rongrong was therefore a distinctive offspring of giant panda breeding cooperation between the mainland and Hong Kong.
