Yuanyuan was born on July 10, 2019, with her twin brother Jiajia. She was the younger female cub and weighed 170 grams at birth. The siblings' names were selected through a public naming campaign that same year: together, “Jiajia” and “Yuanyuan” evoke the national park and the idea of a home, recording the context in which Qinling giant panda conservation was entering the national-park system.
