Zhuzhu has long taken part in the Qinling giant panda breeding program. In 2019, at age 19, she was still adept at alternating care between a pair of twins; in 2020, she gave birth to Qin Hua. Later, scientists studying the genetics of brown coat coloration in giant pandas conducted whole-genome sequencing on Zhuzhu, Qizai, and Qin Hua, bringing this breeding history into genetic research as well.
