Jin Ke was born in Ya’an in 2009 and later went to Guangzhou as one of the “Asian Games pandas” in 2010. Staff at the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda have described him as intelligent but somewhat lazy. When eating bamboo, he often tries to peel it with his forepaws rather than relying on his teeth, a distinctive feeding habit documented over years of observation.
