Banban and her older brother Yueyue were the first male-female giant panda twins born in Shanghai in 2016. Her name plays on a homophone meaning “companion,” expressing the hope that the siblings would grow up keeping each other company. In the zoo’s early observations, Banban was quieter than her brother, bright, and willing to try new things.
