Mangcancan weighed 191 grams at birth, making him the heaviest giant panda cub ever born at Chongqing Zoo at the time. He was born on July 6, 2023, as Mangzai’s fifth cub. Six months later, a public naming campaign formally gave him the name “Mangcancan”; together with the names of his older brothers Xingxing and Chenchen, the character “can” evokes the phrase “bright, shining stars.”
