Yunhui’s birth was directly connected with giant panda rewilding research. On July 7, 2011, the returned overseas-born giant panda Su Lin gave birth to twins in a stone den at an early-stage rewilding-training site in Wolong. Yunhui was the surviving cub, and contemporary reports described the birth as the first time a giant panda bred under human care had given birth in a wild environment.
