Life status

Born

While growing up in San Diego, Su Lin became the zoo’s first giant panda cub trained to participate in hearing research. After returning to China, she entered a mother-and-cub rewilding training program. In 2011, she gave birth to twins in a near-wild training environment and was recorded as the first captive-bred giant panda to give birth in a wild setting. Her life therefore connected two distinct stages of conservation work: overseas behavioral research and rewilding research in China.
