The name Yun Zi means “son of Bai Yun” and was chosen through a public naming campaign in 2009. In 2014, Yun Zi ended his stay in San Diego and returned to China, becoming the first giant panda born overseas to take up residence at the Dujiangyan Base of the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda. That well-documented return history is central to his identity without the need to force a personality label onto him.
