Fuban and his older twin sister Fufeng were born on August 7, 2016, at Schönbrunn Zoo in Vienna. Their mother Yangyang raised both cubs without human assistance, the first recorded case of a captive giant panda mother successfully raising twins entirely on her own. About 12,000 members of the public later voted to choose the younger twin's name, Fuban, meaning “lucky companion” or “lucky other half,” a name that echoes his identity as a twin.
