In 2009, Jinyi traveled to Beijing as one of the “National Day pandas” for an exhibition marking the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. On February 9, 2014, she died suddenly in Zhengzhou. The State Forestry Administration later confirmed that toxoplasma infection had caused acute hemorrhagic gastroenteritis, and reported that Zhengzhou Zoo had changed the venue without authorization and used a temporary facility that did not meet the requirements for giant panda care. The zoo was ordered to stop its giant panda loan exhibition and carry out corrective work.
