Xingya was born at the Bifengxia Panda Base of the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda on August 5, 2013. His name means “Star of Ya’an.” In 2017, he and Wuwen became the first giant pandas to live in the Netherlands, beginning China–Netherlands giant panda conservation research cooperation. In 2020, Xingya and Wuwen mated naturally and had Fan Xing, the first giant panda cub born in the Netherlands. The pair bred naturally again in 2024.
