On December 27, 2018, Xiaohetao and Qinxin were released into the wild in the Longxi-Hongkou National Nature Reserve in Dujiangyan. It was the first release within Chengdu of giant pandas bred in captivity. In 2021, infrared-camera footage and fecal DNA again confirmed Xiaohetao's identity, and monitoring indicated that she was surviving well in the wild.
