Yunchuan's name reflects a family connection spanning China and the United States: the “Yun” comes from his maternal grandmother Baiyun, and his mother Zhenzhen was also born at San Diego Zoo. Keepers at Shenshuping Base described him as gentle, intelligent, and considerate toward other pandas. In 2024, he traveled to San Diego for a new round of China-U.S. giant panda conservation cooperation.
