Shuangshuang and her younger twin brother Chongchong were born at Chongqing Zoo on June 23, 2019. On the same day, Mangzai also gave birth to twins. The four cubs were later named Shuangshuang, Chongchong, Xixi, and Qingqing; together, the names form a phrase meaning “double celebration.” It was also the first time in nearly 60 years of giant panda keeping at Chongqing Zoo that two females at the zoo gave birth to twins on the same day.
