The name “Qinghe” itself preserves a piece of Olympic history. She was born at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding on September 24, 2001, and keepers named her with the sense of “celebration” and “congratulations” after Beijing won its Olympic bid. Qinghe later raised multiple litters. Her 2015 twin sons Qiqi and Diandian were selected by the United Nations Development Programme as Global Animal Ambassadors; in 2018, she gave birth to mixed-sex twins later named Qicheng and Qihang.
