Zhenzhen is the older sister in the first male-female giant panda twin pair born at the Chengdu Panda Base in 2011. She was born on August 4, 2011; her younger brother is Qiaoqiao. Their names were chosen through a public naming campaign. Because they were born close to the Qixi Festival, the names “Zhenzhen” and “Qiaoqiao” echo a Chinese phrase associated with the festival's needle-threading tradition.
