Leshui was originally named Yuanxiao and was born with his twin older brother Yuanda, later known as Leshan, at the Chengdu panda base on August 6, 2006. In 2007, the two brothers received lifetime adoptions and were named Leshui and Leshan. In 2008, Leshui fractured his right hind leg and underwent surgery; treatment required the fur on both hind legs to be shaved, and the resulting “no furry pants” look later became widely remembered.
