Baxi followed a path toward rewilding from birth. He was born at the Hetaoping rewilding training base in Wolong on July 26, 2015, and spent more than two years in rewilding training under the guidance of his mother, Ximei, gradually learning to forage independently, select suitable habitat and avoid danger. On November 23, 2017, Baxi was released into Sichuan’s Liziping National Nature Reserve.

Born at the Wolong Hetaoping rewilding training base
Baxi was born at the Hetaoping rewilding training base in Wolong on July 26, 2015.

Entered second-stage rewilding training at Tiantaishan with mother Ximei
Baxi moved with mother Ximei from the Hetaoping rewilding training base into the second-stage training enclosure at Tiantaishan on December 14, 2016.

Was recaptured before release for a health check and GPS collar fitting
Baxi was recaptured in the second-stage training enclosure at Tiantaishan on November 20, 2017, before release. He then underwent a health examination and was fitted with a GPS collar.

Released into Liziping National Nature Reserve with Yingxue
Baxi was released into Sichuan’s Liziping National Nature Reserve with Yingxue on November 23, 2017.
