In 2008, Taotao was selected by public vote as one of eight “Olympic pandas” sent to Beijing for display. After the Wenchuan earthquake, Taotao arrived at Beijing Zoo with the group on May 24 and met the public during the Beijing Olympic Games. Taotao was born on August 12, 2006, and is the twin brother of Sijia.

Taotao was born at the Hetaoping Base in Wolong on August 12, 2006, with twin sister Sijia.
