The Wenchuan earthquake changed the course of Sijia’s early life. In June 2008, after being transferred to the Bifengxia Panda Base in Ya’an, Sijia went with Meiqie and Qianqian to Yunnan Wildlife Park for two years of temporary foster care. A Wolong keeper said at the time that this was the first time Wolong had used temporary foster care for giant panda cubs. Sijia was born on August 12, 2006, and is Taotao’s twin sister.
