Lingling was born at Chongqing Zoo in 1995, the son of Xinxing and Chuanchuan. As an adult, he spent time in Sichuan as a breeding male and contributed to efforts to improve natural-mating techniques for giant pandas in captivity. He later fathered several pandas, including Tuan Tuan and Le Le, one of the giant pandas gifted to Hong Kong.
