A tuft of white fur at the tip of each hind foot, making it look as if Hefeng is wearing white socks, is one of his most distinctive features. “Little White Socks” has therefore become a long-used nickname. Hefeng was born at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding on August 9, 2016, in a mixed-sex twin litter with Heyu.

In 2019, Xingguang came to Shanghai with his paternal half-brother Hefeng. The two became widely known as the “Fengguang Brothers.” Xingguang was born at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding on June 23, 2016, in a mixed-sex twin litter with Xingchen. As adults, the “Fengguang Brothers” were displayed separately in keeping with giant pandas’ solitary nature.
