Xingyu was born at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding on June 30, 2014, with her younger twin brother Xingyuan. A small black spot on the right side of her nose became more noticeable as she grew and remains an easy identifying feature. As a cub, Xingyu was also one of the earlier walkers in her cohort and liked running and rolling on the grass. In 2018, she went to Quanzhou with Xingyuan for giant panda public education.

Xingyuan was born at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding on June 30, 2014, with his older twin sister Xingyu. While Xingyu is easy to recognize by the small dark spot beside her nose, Xingyuan has noticeably darker fur on his belly, a feature that has remained one of the easiest ways to tell the twins apart. In 2018, Xingyuan went to Quanzhou with Xingyu for giant panda public education.
