圆宝

Yuan Bao

Female

Yuan Bao was born on June 28, 2020, becoming the second giant panda cub successfully bred at Taipei Zoo after Yuan Zai. Because the pandemic prevented giant panda experts from mainland China from traveling to Taiwan, the process—from semen collection from Tuan Tuan and artificial insemination of Yuan Yuan to pregnancy monitoring, hand-rearing, and the mother-cub reunion—was carried out through sustained collaboration between Taipei Zoo and wildlife health and veterinary teams in Taiwan.

Yuan Yuan

Born
Sex
Female

In 2008, Yuan Yuan traveled to Taiwan with Tuan Tuan. She gave birth for the first time in 2013; her daughter Yuan Zai later became the first giant panda born and raised in Taiwan. Taipei Zoo recorded that Yuan Yuan immediately drew the newborn to her chest and cared for her, showing strong maternal instincts as a first-time mother. In 2020, she gave birth again, to Yuan Bao.
