The name Jia Yueyue preserves the panda’s Canadian birth story: selected by public vote in 2016, it means “Canadian Joy.” Jia Yueyue and older twin brother Jia Panpan were born at the Toronto Zoo on October 13, 2015, becoming Canada’s first giant panda cubs. After living in Canada for more than four years, Jia Yueyue came to China for the first time in 2020.

Yubao and his younger sister Yubei are the male-female twins born to Lanxiang on July 11, 2016, and the first pair of giant panda twins at Chongqing Zoo in which both cubs survived. The head of the zoo's panda house recalled that Yubao had been lively, active, intelligent, and physically capable from an early age. His relatively small eye patches are another distinctive feature.
