Her smiling eyes and long, fluffy coat are among Binghua’s easiest-to-recognize features. Binghua was born at the Bifengxia Panda Base in Ya’an on August 9, 2014, to mother Youyou.
A small tuft of white fur on the tip of her right hind foot makes Bingqing easy to recognize. She was born on August 12, 2014, at Hetaoping Base. In 2017, she arrived in Shenyang with Pupu, Fafa and Binghua to take part in local public display of giant pandas.
Fafa was regarded as male for much of her early life. In 2023, she showed signs of pseudopregnancy, and an examination confirmed that she was in fact female. She and Pupu are twins born on August 10, 2014, and both were later adopted by Shanghai Pudong Development Bank.
Pupu’s sex was misidentified for nearly four years. Pupu and Fafa were born as twins on August 10, 2014, and Pupu was treated as female throughout early life. In 2018, staff re-examined Pupu after noticing behavioral changes and confirmed that Pupu was actually male. In 2023, Fafa was in turn confirmed to be female, so the twins, once thought to be an older sister and younger brother, were ultimately identified as an older brother and younger sister.
